The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series is underway and Toyota is back from a dismal season last year. This year though, Hamlin is not the highest ranked Toyota driver as Michael Waltrip secured a place in the front row after posting the second fastest lap time during the pole qualifiers.

Dearborn automaker Ford is stepping up its sale of eco-friendly vehicles. Recently, the European arm of the automaker announced that it has sold 17,500 units of flex-fuel vehicles in the continent. Flex fuel vehicles are those automobiles equipped with an engine designed to run on either gasoline or alternative fuel such as E85.

Other automakers like General Motors are focusing on the development of flex-fuel vehicles. These are vehicles which can run on either gasoline or alternative fuel like ethanol.

Honda’s Accord and Civic trailed the Toyota Camry as the most requested vehicle for last year after splitting a four-year period as the Most Requested Vehicle Overall. The Camry also celebrated with three other Top Ten appearances along with the Corolla, Prius and RAV4 in sixth, seventh, and eighth spots in that order.

Popularly known as the Toyota 1/X, (pronounced as “one-Xth”) the vehicle was named after its mass, fuel use and emissions output, which totals to that fraction compared to other vehicles of the same class. To give you an example, its 500 cc flex-fuel engine, a part of a plug-in hybrid powertrain weighs only one quarter than that of a Prius. The Toyota 1/X was first introduced last year during the Tokyo Auto Show.

"The Corolla Standard grade will carry a base MSRP of $15,250 for models with a manual transmission and $16,050 for models with an automatic. The LE grade with automatic has a base MSRP of $16,650 and the XLE grade with an automatic a base MSRP of $17,550. The S grade will carry a base price of $16,320 for a manual transmission model and $17,150 for models with an automatic. The MSRP for the premium XRS grade will be $18,760 for a manual transmission and $19,950 for models with an automatic."

In the most recent NASCAR Nextel Cup series, Ford took a beating at the hands of Chevy. But Ford said it can cope with the competition and catch Chevy this season. The team's boss will depend heavily on the chassis and aero development of Roush Fenway Racing. Matt Kenseth, Carl Edwards, Greg Biffle, Jamie McMurray and David Regan, the more courageous drivers, will welcome a tighter fight with Chevy.
